Our Initiatives
Every SIBCDI programme starts with a real, named gap in a real community. Here's what that has looked like so far.
Voice of Change
Voice of Change is SIBCDI's flagship gender-based violence awareness and advocacy initiative in Kwara State. Across two editions, the program has trained and mobilized young advocates to speak openly about GBV — a topic too often shrouded in silence equipping them with the language, confidence, and peer-education skills to challenge harmful norms in their own communities. Voice of Change doesn't just raise awareness; it builds a pipeline of young people willing to keep the conversation alive long after the program ends.
Yewo (Check-It)
In an information ecosystem where misinformation spreads faster than fact-checks, YEWO — branded "Check It" in community-facing materials — trains everyday residents in Ikorodu and Orile Iganmu to pause, verify, and question what they see online before sharing it. Delivered through accessible, community-level workshops, YEWO has reached over 1,000 community members, building a layer of grassroots resilience against the misinformation that fuels everything from health scares to social unrest.
Emerging Leaders Programme — Three Lagos Schools
Emerging Leaders is SIBCDI's general leadership and mentorship program, currently active in three secondary schools across Lagos built to identify and nurture students with leadership potential, regardless of their starting point, through mentorship, confidence-building exercises, and structured guidance on decision-making, communication, and civic responsibility. The goal is to give promising young people a structured space to grow into the leaders their communities will need.
Virtual SDG Celebration Sessions
Throughout the year, SIBCDI  formerly GBI hosts virtual sessions to mark and unpack various UN Sustainable Development Goals, making global development frameworks accessible and relevant to a Nigerian youth audience. These sessions create a space for young people to connect everyday issues in their communities to the bigger picture of sustainable development, while also extending SIBCDI's reach beyond our physical program locations.
